Producing edible food gelatin and collagen hydrolyzate for the health, pharmaceutical and food industries since 2011 under Iskefe Holding, Halavet Food opened its second company, which is the plant with the biggest gelatin production capacity in Europe. Mr. Mustafa Varank, Republic of Turkey Minister of Industry and Technology, attended the opening ceremony. With this factory established in Gerede Organized Industrial Zone, gelatin export of Turkey will be doubled. The products manufactured in the factory, which was established by spending 25 million dollars and which is the largest gelatin factory in Europe, will be exported to America and Canada for the first time in addition to Europe, Middle East and Far East.

THE LARGEST GELATIN FACTORY IN EUROPE

Yusuf Aydemir, Executive President of Iskefe Holding, said that “This factory is the second plant of Halavet Food. Halavet Food produces halal food gelatin. This product is a sector that produces raw materials for the confectionery and cosmetics sectors. It obtains raw material from leather sector, and sells its products to global confectionery manufacturers. We are a company mostly working on export. This plant has the largest capacity in Europe and Turkey regarding bovine gelatin, and we will produce raw materials for the first time for hard medicine capsules, which are still not produced in Turkey. This plant was opened as the first facility having certificates in this field.

HALAL CERTIFIED BOVINE GELATINE

Expressing that the products manufactured can be monitored and documented as of the stage of supply, Aydemir told that “In the world, this product is obtained from different materials such as fish and bone, as well as from pork and cattle. Our category is cattle. We can trace halal process of cattle by monitoring traceability document processes from raw material to end product. In this regard, we are working with both TSE and global halal certification organizations. Private halal certification companies, which our customers request, also audit us. These companies also audit the companies that are our suppliers. We make a production with these documents through end-to-end traceability.

TURKEY’S GELATIN EXPORT WILL BE DOUBLED

Stating that they can make 100 million dollars gelatin export if the company works at full capacity, Aydemir said that “Turkey will double its gelatin exports when this factory alone works at full capacity. Today, Turkey’s gelatin export is approximately 70 million dollars. This company will alone manufacture all these products. A total of 25 million dollars were spent for this company, including investments, as of its establishment. 80 employees are working now. You can call this phase 1. Having a total of 1,500 tons capacity regarding its infrastructure, 1st phase was established with a capacity of 750 tons. We will start our second capacity as a collagen investment. Now, the line installation is in the project phase. This means that we will be manufacturing and exporting 100 million dollars of gelatin collagen only at this plant within 12 months.”

GELATIN EXPORT TO AMERICA AND CANADA

Expressing that gelatin export will be made to America and Canada with this factory for the first time, Yusuf Aydemir stated that “We make export to whole Europe. We also make export to whole Muslim geography in the Middle East. We also export to countries such as Japan and Korea in the Far East. Now, we have begun to make export to the countries, such as America and Canada by means of this factory. These regions are very high consumption areas. We have begun to export certified, documented, auditable collagen to America.

IT WILL CONTRIBUTE MUCH TO GEREDE’S LEATHER INDUSTRY

Mehmet Akif Arslan, the General Manager of Halavet Food said that “The plant we have opened will not only address food sector. It will also produce gelatin and collagen for the pharmaceutical industry. This makes this company different. Gerede has one of Turkey’s largest leather industries. This company will contribute much to Gerede’s leather industry. The raw material of gelatin and collagen is cattle hide. Therefore, this company will contribute to the growth of leather sector in Gerede.”
